3、andsecondarypreventionstrategies,thattargetmodifiableriskfactors2-4.Theincreasingprevalenceoftype2diabetesmellitusandobesitywillprobablyhaveanegativeimpactonCVDpreven-tionandtreatment.TheAdultTreatmentPanelIII(ATPIII)oftheNationalCholesterolEducationProgram(NCEP)hasprovidedclinicianswithrecommendati
4、onsregardingprimaryandsecondarypreventionofcardiovasculardisease5,basedonFraminghamriskscore.Nevertheless,suchariskfactorassessmentwouldonlypredict60-65%ofcardiovas-cularevents,andasubstantialnumberofepisodesoccurinpatientscategorizedinthelowormoderateriskcategories6,whowouldnotbeconsideredcandidate
5、sfortheKEYWORDS:coronaryarterydisease,coronarycalcium,statins,C-reactivemostaggressivepreventionstrategies.Suchanobservationhasledinvestigatorstoproteinsearchfornovelriskfactors,aswellasnewmeansofdiagnosingsubclinicalcoronaryarterydiseaseinordertoidentifymoresubjectsthatcouldbenefitfromintensiverisk
6、factormodification.High-sensitivityC-reactiveprotein(hsCRP)isaninflammatorybiomarkerwhichhasbeenshowntobeasignificantcontributortothepredictionofCAD7.There-centlypublishedJUPITERstudy8,hasrenewedinterestontheimportanceofhsCRP,sincetheresultsshowedanimpressivereductionofcardiovascularriskwiththeuseof
