2、bringsimprove-mentsonfourfronts:•improveddatarate,becausethemoreantennas,themoreindependentdatastreamscanbesentout;•improvedreliability,becausethemoreantennasthemorepossiblepathsthattheradiosignalcanpropagateover;•improvedenergyefficiency,becausethebasestat
3、ioncanfocusitsemittedenergyintothespatialdirectionswhereitknowsthattheterminalsarelocated;and•reducedinterferencebecausethebasestationcanpurposelyavoidtransmittingintodirec-tionsinwhichspreadinginterferencewouldbeharmful.Basically,themoreantennasthebasesta
4、tion(andterminal)areequippedwith,thebetterper-formanceinallthesefourrespects.MIMOtechnologyforwirelesscommunicationsinitscon-ventionalformismaturing,andbeingincorporatedintorecentandevolvingwirelessbroadbandstandardslike4GLTEandLTE-advanced.Forexample,theL
5、TEstandardallowsforupto8antennaportsatthebasestation.MassiveMIMOisanemergingtechnology,thatscalesupMIMObyanorderofmagnitudecomparedtocurrentstate-of-the-art.1Wethinkofsystemsthatuseantennaarrayswithafewhundredantennas,thatsimultaneouslyservemanytensoftermi
6、nalsinthesametime-frequencyresource.ThebasicpremisebehindmassiveMIMOistoreapallthebenefitsofconventionalMIMO,butinamuchgreaterscale.Overall,massiveMIMOisanenablerforthedevelopmentoffuturebroadband(fixedandmobile)networkswhichwillbeenergy-efficient,secure,andr
7、obust,andwillusethespectrumefficiently.Assuch,itisanenablingtechnologyforthefuturedigitalsocietyinfrastructurethatwillconnecttheInternetofpeople,Internetofthings,withcloudsandothernetworkinfrastructure.Manydifferentconfigurationsanddeploymentscenariosformass
