3、ndomvibrationanalysisofseismicresponsesofstructureshasalsobeenimplementedwidely.However,doearthquakegroundmotionshaveotherpropertiesbesidestheirrandomness?Aretheresomeintrinsiclawsforthegroundmotionrecordingswhicharecoveredbytheseemingirregularityanddisorder?Makingeffortstoanswerthe
4、sequestionsisworthwhile.Currently,thenon/inearscienceandnonlineartimeseriesanalysisbasedonchaosandfractaltheoryaredevelopingradically.TheyinspireUStoinvestigatethenonlinearcharacteristicsofgroundmotiontimeseriesinthedynamicalstatespace,whichcompletelydiffersfromtheprobabilisticappro
5、achforrandomprocesses.T11ispapertriestoexplorethecomplexityandirregularityofstrongearthquakegroundmotionsfromthisnewwaybasedonnonlineardynamics.Firstly,thenonlinearcharacteristicofnear-faultgroundmotion’S.accelerationrecordsisexaminedbychaotictimeseriesanalysis。Basedonthepowerspectr
6、umanalysis,principalcomponentanalysisandimproved删method,itisillustratedqualitativelythattheanalyzedlserieshavethechaoticproperty.Then,thechaotictimeseriesanalysismethodiSappliedtoquantitativelycalculatethenonlinearcharacteristicparameterssuchascorrelationdimensionandmaximalLyapunove
