2、oposesaneffectivestiffeningschemetoimprovethemechanicalpropertiesofsquarecross-sectionalCFTcolumns.Seventeenspecimensweretestedtoexaminetheeffectsofcross-sectionalshapes,width-to-thicknessratios,andstiffeningarrangementsontheultimatestrength,stiffness,andductilityofCFTcolumns.M

3、oreover,nonlinear®niteelementanalysiswasalsoconductedtoinvestigatecross-sectionalaxialstressdistributionattheultimatestrength.Comparingthemeasuredultimatestrengthwithestimatesbyusingsomecurrentspeci®cationssuggestedthatcurrentspeci®cationsmayconsiderablyunderestimatetheultimate
