3、twasfoundthateachcompositedisplayedadifferentfracturemech-anism.Thecrackpropagationinsidethemetal–matrixcompositewasdominatedbytheAlmatrixcharacteristics.However,crackpropagationinsideboththeco-continuouscompositeswasinfluencedbytheirmicrostructure,thermalresidu
4、alstressesandcon-tiguity.Thisuniquefracturecharacteristicofco-continuouscompositeshasbeenelucidatedinthepresentresearchbyexperi-mentationaswellascomputationalmodeling.Insituthree-pointbendtestswereperformedinsideanenvironmentalscanningelectronmicroscopechamber
5、toobservecrackgrowthatthemicrostructuralscale.Finiteelementmodelingwasperformedbyusingglobal–localapproachtosimulatecrackpropagationandunderstandtheeffectsofthemicrostructureandthermalresidualstresses.Itwasshownthatthecrackpropagatedinsidethemetallicphaseandatt
