2、hareusedwidelyinthelandfillconstructionsitesasaclayliner.Todothis,theoriginalUPdeviceandexperimentalprocedureweremodifiedtoreducethemeasurementerrorsandnamedastheimprovedunconfinedpenetration(IUP)test.Experimentswerecarriedouttoexaminethevariationintensilestrengthasafunctionofdiskdia
3、meter,loadingrateandpHlevel.Theresultsoftheexperimentsprovidedthefollowingimportantfindings.Thetensilestrengthincreaseswithanincreaseinthediskdiameter.Thetensilestrengthisnotsensitivetotheloadingrateintherangeof0.1%/min–1.0%/min.AspecimencompactedwithalowpHvalueofwatershowsahightensi
