4、avebeenconductedbylinguistsfromvariousperspectivesandmanyvaluablefindingshavebeenobtained.Indiggingouttheattitudesofnewsreports,AppraisalTheory,whichwasproposedbyMartinandotherscholarsinthe1990s,isdeemedasaveryinfluentialtheory.Itincludesthreesubsystems:attitude,engagementandgraduation,andithasbe
5、comeaneffectivedeviceinanalyzingattitude.Sinceitsbirth,AppraisalTheoryhasbeenwidelyusedtostudynewsbyresearchersabroadandathome.PulitzerPrizeisthehighestjournalisticawardinAmericaanditincludes14categories.ButinthefieldoflinguisticsofChina,Pulitzer-winningjournalisticworkshaven‘tarousedenoughattent
6、ion.Thisthesis,bycombiningbothqualitativeandquantitativemethods,willmakeuseofsubsystemsofattitudeinAppraisalTheorytostudythedistributionofattitudinalresourcesinPulitzerPrize-winninginternationalreporting.Throughthisstudy,theauthorhopestofindoutthestancetheAmericanreportersprefertotakewhenreportin
