3、hancedrefractiveindexlayerandmostlybesensitivetothepolarizationdirectionofthelight.Planarwaveguideconfinesopticalfieldone-dimensionly,whichlimitsitsapplicationinwaveguidedevices,whilechannelwaveguidesrestrictopticalwaveintwodirections.Mostopticalactiveandpassivedevicessucha

4、sopticalcoupler,modulator,opticalswitchandwaveguidelaserarebasedonchannelwaveguidestructure.Nowadays,theexplorationoffabricationmethodsofchannelwaveguidehasbecometheresearchemphasis.Theattemptoffabricatingchannelwaveguidestructureisofgreatimportanceinbothapplicationofwavegu

5、ideandthecombinationbetweennucleartechnologyandoptoelectronics.Thermaldiffusionisalsoawaveguidefabricationmethodofformingwaveguidelayerbyme&usof仃eatingsubstratewithdepositedlayerofmetalorothermaterialsonsurfaceinhightemperatureapparatus.Therefractiveindexinthediffusedwavegu

6、idelayerisslightlyhigherthanthesubstrateandtheordinaryrefractiveindexandextraordinaryrefractiveindexchangessimilarly.Themodificationamplitudeofrefractiveindexandthedepthofthewaveguidelayerdependonthethicknessofthemetalfilmadheredtothesurfaceofthesubstrate.Inthethermaldiffus
