2、sactionsofthePickwickClub,whichtheeditorofthesepapersfeelsthehighestpleasureinlayingbeforehisreaders,asaproofofthecarefulattention,indefatigableassiduity,andnicediscrimination,withwhichhissearchamongthemultifariousdocumentsconfidedtohimhasbeenconducted."May12,1827.JosephSmiggers,Esq.,P.V.P.M.P.C.,
3、1presiding.Thefollowingresolutionsunanimouslyagreedto:--"ThatthisAssociationhasheardread,withfeelingsofunmingledsatisfaction,andunqualifiedapproval,thepapercommunicatedbySamuelPickwick,Esq.,G.C.M.P.C.,2entitled`SpeculationsontheSourceoftheHampsteadPonds,withsomeObservationsontheTheoryofTittlebats;
4、'andthatthisAssociationdoesherebyreturnitswarmestthankstothesaidSamuelPickwick,Esq.,G.C.M.P.C.,forthesame."ThatwhilethisAssociationisdeeplysensibleoftheadvantageswhichmustaccruetothecauseofsciencefromtheproductiontowhichtheyhavejustadverted,--nolessthanfromtheunweariedresearchesofSamuelPickwick,Es
5、q.,G.C.M.P.C.,inHornsey,Highgate,Brixton,andCamberwell,--theycannotbutentertainalivelysenseoftheinestimablebenefitswhichmustinevitablyresultfromcarryingthespeculationsofthatlearnedmanintoawiderfield,fromextendinghistravels,andconsequentlyenlarginghissphereofobservation,totheadvancementofknowledge,
6、andthediffusionoflearning."That,withtheviewjustmentioned,thisAssociationhastakenintoitsseriousconsiderationaproposal,emanatingfromtheaforesaidSamuelPickwick,Esq.,G.C.M.P.C.,andthreeotherPickwickians,hereinafternamed,forforminganewbranchofUnitedPickwickians,underthetitleofTheCorrespondingSocietyoft
