3、alocationwhichlaterinspiredTheRailwayChildren.WhenNesbitwas17,thefamilymovedagain,thistimebacktoLondon,livingvariouslyinSouthEastLondonatEltham,Lewisham,GroveParkandLee.AfollowerofWilliamMorris,19-year-oldNesbitmetbankclerkHubertBlandin1877.Sevenmonthspregnant,shemarried
4、Blandon22April1880,thoughshedidnotimmediatelylivewithhim,asBlandinitiallycontinuedtolivewithhismother.Theirmarriagewasanopenone.BlandalsocontinuedanaffairwithAliceHoatsonwhichpro-ducedtwochildren(Rosamundin1886andJohnin1899),bothofwhomNesbitraisedasherown.Herownchildrenw
5、erePaulBland(1880-1940),towhomTheRailwayChildrenwasdedicated;IrisBland(1881-19??);andFabianBland(1885-1900),whodiedaged15afteratonsiloperation,andtowhomshededicatedFiveChildrenAndItanditssequels,aswellasTheStoryoftheTreasureSeekersanditssequels.NesbitandBlandwereamongthe
6、foundersoftheFabianSociety(aprecursortotheLa-bourParty)in1884.TheirsonFabianwasnamedafterthesociety.TheyalsojointlyeditedtheSociety'sjournalToday;HoatsonwastheSociety'sassistantsecretary.NesbitandBlandalsodalliedbrieflywiththeSocialDemocraticFederation,butrejecteditastoo
7、radical.Nesbitwasanactivelecturerandprolificwriteronsocialismduringthe1880s.Nesbitalsowrotewithherhusbandunderthename"FabianBland",thoughthisactivitydwindledashersuccessasachildren'sauthorgrew.Nesbitlivedfrom1899to1920inWellHallHouse,Eltham,Kent(nowinsouth-eastGreaterLon
