2、stationautomationsystemisamajorcostfactorinsubstationautomationsystemdesign.Thispaperdiscussesaboutthemodelingofthesubstationautomationsystemcableplanningasanintegerlinearoptimizationproblemtogenerateanefficientcableplanforsubstationautomationsystems.1IntroductionCablingbetwee

3、ndifferentdevicesofasubstationautomationsystem(SAS)isamajorcostfactorintheSASdesignprocess.UsuallycomputeraideddesignsoftwareisusedtocreatethedesigntemplatesofSASdevicesandtheirinterconnections.ThedesigntemplatesaretheninstantiatedinaSASprojectandthecablesaremanuallyassignedto

4、theconnections.Theselectionandassignmentofcablestoconnectionsmustfollowcertainengineeringrules.Thisengineeringprocessisusuallytimeconsumingandcancauseengineeringerrors,therebyincreasingtheengineeringcost.Apparently,theSAScableplanningisrelatedtothewellknownbinpackingproblem.Th

5、eSAScableplanningcanbeformulatedasanintegerlinearoptimizationproblemwiththecableengineeringrulesexpressedasasetoflinearconstraintsandacostobjectiveforminimizingthetotalcablecost.ThispaperdescribestheformulationofSAScableplanningproblemasanintegerlinearoptimizationproblemandpre

6、sentstheresultsforsomerepresentativetestcases.Tothebestoftheauthors’knowledgetheworkisthefirstofthekindtostudySAScableplanning.Thepaperisorganizedasfollows.Section2presentsanoverviewoftheSAScableplanningprocess.Section3expressestheSAScableplanningproblemasanintegerlinearoptimi
