5、sappointment.TherehasbeenremarkableprogressasthelastcenturyhasseenanunprecedentedexpansionofwomenslegalrightsandentiTLements.Indeed，theadvancementofwomensrightscanlayclaimtobeoneofthemostprofoundsocialrevolutionstheworldhasseen.　　Onehundredyearsago，onlytwoc

6、ountriesallowedwomentovote.Today，thatrightisvirtuallyuniversalandwomenhavenowbeenelectedtoleadGovernmentsineverycontinent.Women，too，holdleadingpositionsinprofessionsfromwhichtheywereoncebanned.Farmorerecentlythanacenturyago，thepolice，courtsandneighborsstill

7、sawviolenceinthehomeasapurelyprivatematter.Todaytwo-thirdsofcountrieshavespecificlawsthatpenalizedomesticviolenceandtheUnitedNationsSecurityCouncilnowrecognizessexualviolenceasadeliberatetacticofwar.　　Butdespitethisprogressoverthelastcentury，thehopesofequal
