3、system(SAS)isamajorcostfactorintheSASdesignprocess.UsuallycomputeraideddesignsoftwareisusedtocreatethedesigntemplatesofSASdevicesandtheirinterconnections.ThedesigntemplatesaretheninstantiatedinaSASprojectandthecablesaremanuallyassignedtotheconnections.Theselectionandassignmentofcablestoconnection

4、smustfollowcertainengineeringrules.Thisengineeringprocessisusuallytimeconsumingandcancauseengineeringerrors,therebyincreasingtheengineeringcost.Apparently,theSAScableplanningisrelatedtothewellknownbinpackingproblem.TheSAScableplanningcanbeformulatedasanintegerlinearoptimizationproblemwiththecable

5、engineeringrulesexpressedasasetoflinearconstraintsandacostobjectiveforminimizingthetotalcablecost.ThispaperdescribestheformulationofSAScableplanningproblemasanintegerlinearoptimizationproblemandpresentstheresultsforsomerepresentativetestcases.Tothebestoftheauthors’knowledgetheworkisthefirstofthek
