3、ningrespiratoryfunctionandtechnologyofrespirator,mechanicalventilationhasbecomeanimportantinterventionalarmamentariumtoimprovegasexchangeanddecreaserespiratorywork.Itisoneoftheimportantmeanstoenhanceoxygendelivery,protectthelung,andrestorehomeostasisinthetreatmentofmultipleorgandysfunc
4、tionsyndrome.Theprogressioninmedicalsciencesandincreasingdatapertainingtoevidence-basedmedicinehavealsorendertheuseofmechanicalventilationstandardizedwithmoreappropriateindication.Undertheaforementionedconditions,itseemstobeessentialthattheindicationsandtheoperationandmanipulationofthe
5、sophisticatedventilatorshouldbestandardizedinthecareofcriticallyillpatients.Atthesametime,accumulationofclinicalexperiencesinrecentyearswithabundantrelevantdataasaresultofmulti-centerstudieshavefurnishedhighlyvaluableinformationtoaccomplishthiseffort.Basedonevidenced-basedata,theChines
6、eSocietyofCriticalCareMedicine(ChineseMedicalAssociation)heldaconsensusconferencetodraftaguidelinefortherecommendationofmechanicalventilationtocategorizealltheinformationgatheredfromtheliteratureintofivegradesfromAtoE,withAbeingthehighest,accordingtoamodifiedDelphicriteria,whichwereado
7、ptedbytheInternationalSepsisForumheldin2001.Afterfurthernationwideinquiriesandconscientiousdiscussions,thisguidelinehasbeendraftedpendingfurtheradditionandcorrection.Thisguidelinechieflycoversthefollowingaspects:thechoiceofmechanicalventilationforcriticallyillpatients,theaimandindica
