2、fthecity.Within10minutes,carshavepassedoutofGuiyangandhaveprobablyalreadyarrivedinQingzhen,acity26kilometerstothewest.OpenedtothetrafficinearlySeptember2011,theexpresswaybetweenGuiyangandQingzhenisthefirsttwo-waysix-lineexpresswayinGuizhouProvince.Asthefirstkeyinfrastructureprojectinwhatwil
3、lbeaslewofotherdevelopments,theimpressivestretchofroadisasignoftheprosperoustransportationeconomythatisbeingbornintheprovince.“Guizhouisatypicalmountainousinland6province.It’snotnexttoaborder,nordoesithavebigriversorfacethesea.Itfollowsthattransitisanindustrythatplaystoourstrengths,”explain
4、edChengMengren,directoroftransportdepartmentoftheprovincialgovernment.Hewasthedepartment’sdeputydirectorfrom2002to2007andhasbeendirectorforthelastfiveyears.“Centralgovernmentresourcesallocatedtotransportherehaven’tbeengreat,butnonethelesswe’vebeenabletocreateopportunitiesforourselves.”Since
5、thestartofChina’s11thFiveyearPlanin2006,Guizhouhasplacedgreatemphasisoninfrastructureconstruction,andespeciallytransportationlinks.Acomprehensivetransportnetworkhastakenshape,encompassinghighwaysandwaterways.Guizhou’sroadnetworknowmakesitpossiblefortheprovince,theeconomyofwhichisrelativelys
6、mall,tobetterintegrateitselfwithotherpartsofChinaandgainaccesstogreaterdevelopmentopportunities.Bytheendof2011,Guizhouhadaroadnetworkof157,820km,with89.6kilometersofroadsper6100squarekilometersofterritory.Totalexpresswaylengthreached2,023kilometers,516kilometersofwhichwasnewlybuilt.“Duringt
