3、omentoscientific,technicalandvocationaleducationandtraining.InitsAgendaforGenderEquity,UNESCOcommitsitselftoencouragingtheequalaccesstoknowledgeinallfields,notablywithinscienceandtechnologyaswellasaimingatsubstantiallyincreasingtheparticipationofwomeninscienc
4、eandtechnicaleducationprogrammesandencouragingtheiraccesstoscientificanddecision-makingbodies.ThepolicyofUNESCOtopromotetheequalaccessofgirlsandwomentoscientific,technicalandvocationaleducationisbasedontheRevisedRecommendationsconcerningTechnicalandVocational
5、Education,theConventiononTechnicalandVocationalEducation,andtheProject2000+declaration.AFRICA,WOMENandGIRLShaveaspecialplaceinUNESCO'scurrentmedium-termStrategy(1996-2001)havingbeenrecognizedasprioritygroupsforaction.Inthiscontextaspecialprojecton"Scientific,
6、TechnicalandVocationalEducationforGirlsinAfrica"waslaunchedin1996withtheaimofreducinggenderdisparitiesinscienceandtechnologyeducationandintechnicalandvocationaltraining.Thisprojectwasstartedbyholdingasub-regionalworkshopinHarare,September1997andbyinitiatingna
7、tionalsurveysin21Africancountriestoassesstheparticipationofgirlsandwomen-1-inscientificeducationandvocationaltraining;theunderlyingreasonsforlowparticipationaswellasinitiativesundertakenatnationalandregionallevelstoremedythesituation.Concurrently,aspecialproj
