1、METHOD9056ADETERMINATIONOFINORGANICANIONSBYIONCHROMATOGRAPHY1.0SCOPEANDAPPLICATION1.1Thismethodaddressesthesequentialdeterminationofchloride(ClG),fluoride(FG),32bromide(BrG),nitrate(NO3G),nitrite(NO2G),phosphate(PO4G),andsulfate(SO4G)anionsinaqueoussamples,suchasdrinkingwater,wastewater,aq
2、ueousextractsofsolids,andthecollectionsolutionsfromthebombcombustionofsolidwastesamples.1.2Themethoddetectionlimit(MDL),theminimumconcentrationofasubstancethatcanbemeasuredandreportedwith99%confidencethatthevalueisabovezero,variesforanionsasafunctionofsamplesize.Generally,minimumdetectable
3、concentrationsareintherangeof0.002-320.02mg/LforFG,BrG,ClG,NO3G-N,NO2G-N,PO4G-P,andSO4Gwitha50-µLsampleloop.ExampleMDLsforspecificanionsaregiveninTable1andareprovidedforillustrativepurposesonly.Theupperlimitofthemethodisdependentontotalanionconcentrationandmaybedeterminedexperimentally.Max
4、imumcolumnloading(totalanions)shouldnotexceedapproximately500ppm.Dilutionofsamplesmayallowhigherconcentrationsamplestobeanalyzed.1.3AnalystsshouldconsultthedisclaimerstatementatthefrontofthemanualandtheinformationinChapterTwo,Sec.2.1,forguidanceontheintendedflexibilityinthechoiceofmethods,

6、on,theuseofSW-846methodisnotmandatoryinresponsetoFederaltestingrequirements.TheinformationcontainedinthismethodisprovidedbyEPAasguidancetobeusedbytheanalystandtheregulatedcommunityinmakingjudgmentsnecessarytogenerateresultsthatmeetthedataqualityobjectivesfortheintendedapplication.2.0SUMMAR
