6、eendsinsocialsituations.InTBLA,languageuseisobservedinsettingsthataremorerealisticandcomplexthanindiscreteskillsassessmentsandthattypicallyrequiretheintegrationoftopical,social,and/orpragmaticknowledgealongwithknowledgeoftheformalelementsoflanguage.Bu

7、tdesigninganassessmentisnotaccomplishedsimplybydeterminingthesettingsinwhichperformancewillbeobserved.TBLAraisesquestionsofjusthowtodesigncomplextasks,evaluatestudents’performances,anddrawvalidconclusionstherefrom.Thispaperexaminesthesechallengesfromt

8、heperspectiveof“evidence-centeredassessmentdesign.”Themainbuildingblocksarestudent,evidence,andtaskmodels,withtaskstobeadministeredinaccordancewithanassemblymodel.Wedescribethesemodels,showhowtheyarelinkedandassembledtoframeanassessmentargumen
