3、forlow-velocityimpactisprovidedanddescribedinsomedetails.Theresponseoflow-velocityimpacthasbeendeterminedbasedonmassratiowhichisdefinedastheratiooftheimpactmasstoeffectivemassofthestructuralcomponent.Asaresult,theresponseunderlow-velocityimpactwasfurthersubdividedintothreepossiblecategories,na

4、mely,largemassimpact,smallmassimpactandmediummassimpact.Foreachcategoryofimpact,currentlyavailablesuitablesolutionsarediscussedindetails.Toclassifytheresponseoflowvelocityimpactandalsotoexploretheenergyabsorptioncharacteristicsaswell,theimpactdurationisidentifiedasthekeyparameter.Thereviewconc

6、wmoduluscore.Thustheyarerelativelylightweightandefficientinsupportingtransverseloads.Generally,thefacesheetsaremadeoflightalloyssuchasaluminiumorfibre-reinforcedcompositeswhilethecorematerialsusedinstructuralapplicationsincludehoneycombcoresmadeofNomex,fiberglassreinforcedthermoplastic,alumini

7、um,andfoamtypecores.Thecorethicknessesrangebetween3and261mm[1-5].Thiscombinationofmaterialsresultedinarathercompetitivestructureinapplicationareawherespecificstrengthandstiffnessarethemainfocus.Sandwichstructuresarecommonlyfoundinmanyen
