4、,MichaelMischaikow'sresearchinterestshavenotdirectlyencompassedregionalinput-outputanalysis.However,asEditoroftheAnnals,andasahighlyrespectedstatesmaninregionalscience,hehashadasignificantinfluenceinfosteringthegrowthanddevelopmentofmanyanalyticaltechniques

5、inregionalanalysisincludinginput-outputanalysis.SeveralveryimportantandinfluentialarticleshaveappearedintheAnnals,manyastheresultofMischaikow'sinitiativeandencouragement.Hehasbeenafirm,committedchampionofoursub-fieldofregionalinput-outputanalysis.Wearepleas

6、edtohavetheopportunitytoofferthispaperaspartofhisFestschrift,bothasamarkofpersonalappreciationandencouragement,andtohonortheoutstandingcontributionofavaluedcolleague.II.IntroductionThefieldofregionalanalyticalmodellingisundergoingasignificantnewsurgeofinter

7、estanddevelopment.Inthispaper,someofthesedevelopmentswillbereportedinthecontextofasetofemergingehallengesinthefieldofregionalinput-outputanalysis.First,however,thecurrentstateoftheartwillbereviewedbriefly.Thereafter,somegeneralcommentswillbemadeabouttheprev
