4、tigated12CP/CPPSpatientsparticipatinginaprospectiverandomizedclinicaltrialcomparingacupunctureversusshamacupunctureforeffectsoncellularimmunity.Bloodsamplesweretakenbeforethefirstneedlingandafterthelastof20treatmentsessions(week10).PatientsalsocompletedquestionnairesexaminingtheirCP/C

5、PPSsymptomsandmoodstatusatthebaselineandendofstudyvisits.ResultsAttheendofstudy8of12participants(67%)wereclassifiedastreatmentresponders,4participantseachfromtheacupunctureandshamgroups.Theacupuncturegroupaverageda5%increaseinnaturalkillercelllevelscomparedtocorrespondingsham(-13%;p=0

6、.03).Similarly,patientsrandomizedtoacupuncturereportedareductioninotherwhitebloodcellparametersexamined,supportingthepossibilitythatimmunitymightbeimportantinthepathophysiologyofCP/CPPS.ConclusionsThespecificeffectofacupunctureonCP/CPPSremainsunclear.Furtherresearchiswarrantedtoexamin
