4、chgrowintosmall,bulblessonions.Theseonionsareleftundisturbedtooverwinterinthesamelocation.Thefollowingyear,theyflowerandsetseed.Seed-to-seedproductioncanonlybedoneinalocationwherethewintertemperaturesdonotdropbelow15–20°F.Seed-to-seedproductioniscommoninlargecommercialseedproduc
5、tionbecauseitminimizeslabor.However,leavingtheonionsinthegroundmakesweedcontrolmorechallenging,increasestheriskofdiseasebuildup,anddoesnotallowforselectionduringseedproduction.Infall-replantedbulb-to-seedproduction,onionseedsaresowninlatespringandgrowto1–2inchbulbsinearlyfall.Th
6、esebulbsarethenpulled,selected,andreplantedinanewfieldwithinacoupleofweeks,wheretheyoverwinterandproduceseedsthefollowingyear.Likeseed-to-seedproduction,thismethodcanonlybedonewherewintertemperaturesarenotcoldenoughtokilltheoverwinteringonions.Theadvantagesoffall-replantedbulb-t
