3、theKoltovskyBridge,aftertheadjacentMalayaNevkariverembankment.Butin1952,itwasrenamedtocommemoratethelegendaryRussianadmiralMikhailLazarev.TheembankmentandthebridgewereredesignatedtheAdmiralLazarevEmbankmentandLazarevskyBridgerespectively.BuilttothedesignofengineerVVBlazhevich,theoriginalbrid

4、gehad11spans,thecentralonebeingasingle-leafdrawspan.Itwasoriginallydesignedfortramsandwastheonlytramwaybridgeinthecityatthattime.Itstotallengthwas141manditswidthwas11m,thedeckconsistingofmetalbaulksandwoodenplankflooring.Thetimberpostpiersrestedonpiledfoundationsofsteelpipes.Butin2002thetram

5、waywasclosedandsincethen,thebridgehasonlybeenusedbypedestrians.ItslocationmeantthatLazarevskyBridgeservedthewesternpartofthecity--thePetrograddistrictsincludingKrestovskyisland.AlltheroadtraffictoKrestovskyislandusedthemainKrestovskyBridgewhichasaconsequencewasconsiderablyoverloaded.Sincethe

6、LazarevskyBridgecarriednovehiculartrafficitwasnotconsideredpartoftheroadnetworkofthedistrict.ButplanstobuildanewstadiumattheSeasideVictoryParkonKrestovskyIslandjust3kmfromthebridgesitemeantthatareliabletransportconnectiontotherestofthecitywasrequired.Thelocalauthoritydecidedthatreconstructio
