2、nas“theLostGeneration”,asdescribedinhisposthumousmemoirAMoveableFeast.HereceivedthePulitzerPrizein1953forTheOldManandtheSeaandtheNobelPrizeinLiteraturein1954.Hemingway’sdistinctivewritingstyleischaracterizedbyeconomyandunderstatement.Ithadasignificantinfluenceonthed

3、evelopmentoftwentieth-centuryfictionwriting.Hisprotagonistsaretypicallystoicmenwhoexhibitanidealdescribedas“graceunderpressure.”ManyofhisworksarenowconsideredcanonicalinAmericanliterature.Hemingwayincorporatedthedeepunderstandingofdeathintohisownlifeconsciousnesswit

4、hunique,graveandsternsight.FirstpublishedintheAugust,1936,issueofEsquire,TheSnowsofKilimanjarohasbeencalledHemingway’sshortstorymasterpiece.HewrotethestoryafterhisfirstsafaritoAfricaandwassofascinatedbytheplacethathetoldreportershewantedtogobackassoonashehadenoughmo
