2、dsoftheemployer,thewritingsampleshouldrepresentarealworldcontext.Althoughitmaybethepaperyouaremostproudof,abrilliantanalysisofanarcanesubjectforaseminarorlawreviewisnotnecessarilythewinningwritingsample.Aninternalmemorandumorpleadingthatyoudraftedasalawclerkorexternmaybethe

3、strongerchoicebecauseitwillbetterhighlightyourpracticalskills.Employerswanttomakesurethatyouhavethepracticallegalwritingskillsthatattorneysuseineverydaypractice;employersoftencomplainthatstudentsareunabletomaketheleapfromthelawschooltypedorwrittenexamanalysistothewritinguse

4、ddailyinlegalpractice.Theidealwritingsampleaddressessubstantivelegalissuespertinenttotheemployertowhichyouareapplying;however,manytimesyouwillnothavehadtheopportunitytodothis.Inthisinstance,youshoulduseaformofwritingpertinenttotypesofemployers;i.e.,amemoranduminsupportofamo

5、tionforalitigationposition,oraninternalresearchmemoforatransactionalposition.Besuretogetexplicitpermissionfromapreviousorcurrentemployerbeforeusingaworkdocumentasawritingsample.Failuretodosocanbedetrimentaltoyourrepresentationinthelegalcommunity.Yourwritingsampleshoulddemon

6、stratethatyoupaycarefulattentiontodetail.Itmustbeaccurateandfreeoftypographicalerrors,grammaticalerrorsandothermistakes.IfyouareusingapaperfromyourLSPclass,makesureyouhaveincorporatedallofthesuggestionsmadebyyourinstructor.Thefollowingpointswillguideyouinmakingdecisionsabou
